March is National Athletic Training Month!
National Athletic Month is held every March in order to spread awareness about the important work of Athletic Trainers. Our athletic trainers are Lee Whitehead and Anneliese Roberto.
Lee Whitehead has been working at Sam Houston since 2008. Coach Whitehead’s favorite part of being an athletic trainer is “helping an athlete get back on the field after an injury”.
This is Anneliese Roberto’s second year at Sam Houston. Her favorite part of being an athletic trainer is “seeing the athletes every day and building a rapport with them.” She also loves “being there to support them on and off the field”.
Our athletic trainers are allied healthcare professionals that are educated, trained and evaluated in five major practice domains:
- Clinical evaluation and diagnosis
- Immediate and emergency care
- Treatment and rehabilitation
- Organization and professional health and well-being
As you can see, the athletic trainers wear many different hats throughout the day. It is possible to act as a first responder, physical therapist, and counselor all in one day. They work with all of the sports on campus, and are present for all practices and games. This way, there is always someone present in case of an emergency. This year, the slogan for NATM is “Your protection is Our Priority”. As you can see, our athletic trainers work tirelessly to provide the best possible healthcare and protection for our student-athletes. Happy National Athletic Training Month! #NATM2017
